1916 - 1969

The first school building in Jasper was a one-room structure built in 1857. On January 18, 1886, Jasper's first high school was completed. This school, which was located on what is known as "Academy Hill," was called the "Jasper Academy" and was destroyed by a fire in about 1915.

In 1916, a new building was completed on the Highland Avenue site and was renamed "Walker County High School."

In 1929 a new wing was added on the south side of the building, consisting of four new class rooms, a lunch room, and a new dressing room. In 1935, the auditorium was considerably enlarged, and the library was improved. The athletic field was completely redone, and a large stone grandstand was built in 1936. Due to ever increasing enrollment, the first two grades of the high school were transferred into the the old grammar school building in 1939.
